Fundamental charges in environmental regulations will soon require significantchanges in many manufacturing processes. It is believed that the ozone layer is being damaged by the emission of chloroflurocarbon chemicals (CFCs) and other ozone-depleting chemicals (ODCs). The goal of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of nonozone-depleting alternatives to current (ozone-depleting) solvents, specifically with respect to their compatibility with common electronic components. Seven solvents were selected for testing. Of these seven, five are non-ozone depleting solvent alternatives. The remaining two, used as the controls, are ozone-depleting solvents used in current production. The components selected for testing are representative of production samples, and the test conditions were more severe than actual manufacturing and service conditions.
