Section 633.26 presents the rationale and revised design criteria for designingsand and gravel filters for all programs. Much of the information is currently given in Soil Mechanics Note 1, Revised January, 1986. The major revisions include limiting criteria to prevent the use of broadly graded filters and the addition of more user-friendly examples to illustrated particular applications. This revision of Soil Mechanics Note 1, and any future revisions of other Soil Mechanics Notes will be placed in the National Engineering Handbook, Part 633, Soil Engineering.
