The monograph is the first in a series of three dealing with needle stickprevention in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It includes a model for determining the cost of a needle stick for the VA; a macro model for determining the cost of implementing safer needle devices; guidelines for implementation of safer needle devices; and evaluations of all currently available product systems for injection devices, intravenous (IV) insertion devices, and medication delivery devices. A data base of available items on the USA market and an extensive bibliography are included.
