Work on obtaining bottomhole pressure data in an observation well during cavityrecompletion of a coalbed methane well is reported. The objective was to monitor pressure response and to evaluate the pressure interference to estimate reservoir performance. The recompleted well, Barnes No. 21, showed an increase in gas production, due to wellborne clean-out. Based on observed pressure responses, the reservoir appeared to have been artificially fractured during cavity recompletion. It is concluded that pressure transient test analysis performed on originally cased hole well can yield incorrect estimate of reservoir quality due to near wellbore damage caused during the casing and cementing operations.
