Guide to Equitable Sharing of Federally Forfeited Property for State and LocalLaw Enforcement Agencies

The Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984 gave federal investigators andprosecutors the tools they needed to mount an effective national asset forfeiture program. One of the most important provisions of the 1984 law authorized the sharing of federal forfeiture proceeds with cooperating state and local law enforcement agencies. It is the purpose of this Guide to enhance the integrity of the sharing program so that it will continue to merit public confidence and support. For this reason, the National Code of Professional Conduct for Asset Forfeiture is included as Appendix G.
