Geostatistics (an emerging discipline combining statistics, mathematics, and theenvironmental disciplines) is the study of spatially or temporally correlated data. We now recognize that spatial variation is an important component of environmental phenomena and that methods are available to use our knowledge of the spatial dynamics. Therefore, it seems appropriate to transfer this expertise to the interpolation of climatic data and to facilitate its use by researchers. Geo-CLM has been written primarily for researchers who want to interpolate the historical climatological record at their research plots.
