The publication provides documentation for the immigrant data file. This filecontains information on all aliens legally admitted for permanent residence during fiscal year 1992. These immigrants either arrived outside the United States with a valid immigrant visa issued by the U.S. Department of State, or were already in the United States in a temporary status and adjusted to legal permanent residence by petitioning the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. Each record contains information on the alien's port of entry; month and year of admission; class of admission (refugee, immediate relative, preference category, etc.); countries of chargeability, birth, and last residence; age, sex, marital status, and occupation; nationality; zip code of intended residence; and nonimmigrant class and year of entry for those adjusting from a temporary status.
