Computation of Transonic Flow on Composite Overlapping Grids in 2 D

We study the composite overlapping grid technique by applying it to two cases oftransonic flow past an airfoil in two dimensions. A second order accurate explicit time marching finite difference scheme for the pseudo-unsteady Euler equations together with first order nonconservative interpolation at the component grid interfaces has been used. The numerical results indicate that the technique of overlapping grids is very useful if the decomposition of the domain is made carefully. A substantial improvement of the resolution in particular parts of the domain is easily obtained by the use of refined subgrids.
