Commercial U.S. Feed Grain Farms: Financial Performance, 1987-91

Profitable commercial U.S feed grain farms were larger, achieved higher yields,and relied more heavily on leasing that the average commercial feed grain farm. Unprofitable or financially stressed farms tended to have lower yields, to rely on cash rental of land, and to be run by younger operators. The number of financially vulnerable commercial feed grain farms (low equity and negative cash flow) declined between 1988 and 1991.
