Design of a Distribution Planning Support System (DPSS)

After an introductory chapter in which the authors have sketched the designproblem and the approach adopted to deal with it, Chapter 2 discusses the area of strategic distribution planning. In preparation for the development of the IPSF, the discussion on distribution planning is organized following a new design method. Chapter 3 elaborates on the integration of the design method and available quantitative support techniques. Chapters 4 and 5 each describe a support model that is developed for two design stages in the IPSF. Chapter 6 discusses the literature on models for a third design stage. Chapter 7 presents the main lines of the construction of the DPSS, and describes the LBB user interface concept. This is followed in Chapter 8 with the implementation of the prototype DPSS. The application of the DPSS in an concrete situation and the evaluation of its capabilities are subject of Chapter 9. The monograph finishes with the main conclusions and some topics for further research, and relates the formulated objectives with the obtained results.
