Real-Time Traffic Data Collection for Transportation Telematics (Inwinning vanActuele Verkeersgegevens voor Telematica Toepassingen in het Verkeer)

摘要

The principal research objective of this dissertation is to extensivelyinvestigate the issue of obtaining real-time road traffic information for the particular applications of transportation telematics that are concerned with coordination of road traffic flows. The first part of Chapter 2 presents an overview of international developments within the field of transportation telematics aimed at coordination of road traffic flows. The second part of Chapter 2 presents an alternative classification of applications of transportation telematics, evolving from an information science approach. In Chapter 3, the authors study possibilities for obtaining real-time road traffic information from a monitoring system exploiting infrastructure based traffic detectors. In Chapter 4, the principles of a novel approach to real-time road traffic montioring are presented. Chapter 5 and 6 both deal with communication aspects of collecting real-time road traffic data through probe vehicles. Chapter 7 and 8 both deal with traffic engineering aspects of collecting real-time road traffic data through probe vehicles. The conclusions of the research reported in this dissertation, as well as the recommendations for further research, are presented in Chapter 9.
