Knowledge Intensive CAD-1. Preprints of the IFIP WG 5.2 Workshop (1st). Held inEspoo, Finland on September 26-29, 1995

The IFIP Working Group 5.2 has organized a series of three workshops on'Intelligent CAD' between 1987 and 1989, followed by a working conference on the same subject in 1991. The KIC-1 workshop extends the concept of intelligent CAD to the concept of 'knowledge intensive engineering.' The concept advocates that intensive life-cycle knowledge regarding products and design processes must be incorporated in the center of the CAD architecture. The concept focuses on the systematization and sharing of knowledge across the life-cycle stages and organizational boundaries. A second workshop KIC-2 will be arranged in November 1996 at the Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA. The workshops aim at clarifying and elaborating the concepts of knowledge intensive design and CAD by providing an international forum for mutual discussions and exchange of opinions of experts of the field.
