Design Methods for Distributed Databases

摘要

Relations in a distributed database system are usually fragmented horizontally orvertically and allocated to sites of the communication network. Known properties such as 'Completeness', 'Reconstructability' and 'Disjointness' are used to characterize the correctness of the data fragmentation. This report gives an overview on horizontal and vertical fragmentation methods. Furthermore, the data allocation problem is introduced and allocation algorithms are presented.
