Information Retrieval, Multi-Media, and Knowledge Management

摘要

The report surveys developments in the field of Information Retrieval (IR)research. Of the issues involved in designing good IR systems, that of designing the indexing language is singled out for discussion. A number of approaches published in the past decades are summarized. This report argues that knowledge-based approaches have great potential for retrieval of documents from homogeneous collections. It closes with an overview of knowledge-based IR research at the Knowledge-Based Systems Groups of the University of Twente. (Copyright (c) University of Twente 1995.)
