Some Causes of Mortality in Telemetered Wild Turkeys in Wexford County, Michigan

Seventy-one wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo sylvestris) fitted with telemetrypackages were released in Antioch Township, Wexford County, Michigan, during a period lasting from December 13, 1990 to June 1, 1993. There were 52 known mortalities in these birds during the study period. The leading cause of death in the study flock was the result of human activity (hunting and poaching, 22 mortalities), while natural predation accounted for 20 birds.
