摘要

The aim of this review is to describe the nature of carbon materials and tooutline their applicability to catalyst supports, particularly for methanol (hydro)carbonylation reactions. One of the main emphases is in the carbon-supported metal catalysts. All carbons are produced by carbonaceous material. The nature of the starting material and the conditions of pyrolysis determine the fraction, size and orientation of graphitic and nongraphitic carbon and therefore the incipient pore structure by burning away the nongraphitic carbon. Activated carbons meet most of the general criteria demanded for catalyst support. Carbon supported metal catalysts are usually prepared by impregnation. The effect of preparation variables, i.e. support material, impregnation solvent and reduction conditions, on final state of metal in the catalyst are discussed. Also the theoretical aspects of preparation are considered.
