Small metal sulfide particles and zeolites containing acid sites have favorablecatalytic properties for oil refinery. A combination of these two catalytic active systems would be a step forward in catalyst designing. A model system for such a possible combination is 'Fe-sulfide' on NaY-zeolite. The preparation of the 'Fe-sulfide' NaY happens in two phases; the introduction of iron in NaY-zeolite and the sulfidation of the thus prepared FeNaY samples. For the introduction of the iron in the zeolite three possible methods are: impregnation, ion exchange and contact induced solid state ion exchange. The sulfidation of the FeNaY samples happens stepwise while in the zeolite physisorbed water is still present or after drying of the sample. This report describes a Mossbauer absorption spectroscopy study of the preparation and the sulfidation behavior of different FeNaY samples and of their stability. In addition HREM measurements were done on some of the prepared samples.
