The purpose of this thesis is to explain the theory of N-coordinate systems andto show its relation to physical geodesy. The chapter about tensor analysis contains topics that are found in many mathematical text-books. The appendix about notation topics that are found in many mathematical text-books. The appendix about notation mainly consists of a comparison of different notations found in the literature. The chapter about N-coordinate systems itself is a discussion on the most important topics of part II of Mathematical Geodesy. It is illustrated with examples of N-coordinate systems II of Mathematical Geodesy. It is illustrated with examples of N-coordinate systems and extended with an interpretation of the main geometrical quantities. The general N-coordinate system is also related to well-known mathematical coordinate systems. In chapter 2 of this report a short biography of Martin Hotine and a short description of Mathematical Geodesy will be given. Chapter 3 deals with the basic concepts of tensor analysis. Chapter 4 gives the actual tensor-analytical approach to the theory of N-coordinate systems.
