C-Co-W-Ti System: Calculations of Phase Equilibria and Molar Volumes

The phase diagram and thermodynamic properties of the C-Co-Ti-W system are ofinterest for cemented carbide applications. In the present work an assessment of experimental information concerning the Co-Ti-C system has been performed and a thermodynamic description of this system using thermodynamic models describing the Gibbs energy of the various phases is presented. Calculations are compared with experimental information. The new description of the Co-Ti-C system is combined with previously presented thermodynamic descriptions of binary and ternary systems, and parameters describing the quaternary system are presented. Experimental information on lattice parameters and molar volumes of the phases of main interest has been assessed and this information has been included in the thermodynamic description.
