The document is a technical proposal submitted by the Center for ArchaeologicalInvestigations (CAI), Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) in response to a request from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for cultural resources investigations at the Heron Flats site, Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge, Carterville, Illinois (Request No. FWS3-94-RFQ-68). The objectives of the proposed investigations are to: (1) conduct archaeological test investigations to assess the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility of the site; (2) analyze all artifacts and other data recovered by the test investigations; (3) analyze previously collected materials from the site that are currently in the posession of Refuge personnel and other individuals; (4) prepare a scientific report of findings; (5) curate all recovered artifacts, other materials, and documents.
