Evaluation of Quality Assurance Programs for Bituminous Paving Mixtures

The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the SCDOT's current QAprograms and testing procedures. The specific objectives included the following: Identify the objectives of each of the current asphalt QA testing programs and evaluate how well the existing programs fulfill their respective objectives. Survey other state highway agencies (SHAs) and the FHWA to determine their QA methods and procedures for asphalt paving mixes. Perform a general review of historical data to identify obvious variance in the data and how results, in general, apply to the program objectives. Compile all findings into a final report with recommendations concerning changes or future work needed to provide a satisfactory QA program for asphalt paving mixes.
