One of the questions that is frequently raised regarding deployment of an AHS iswhether or not surrounding parallel and feeder facilities will be adversely impacted. The objectives of the area I set of activities, therefore, were twofold: to analyze the likely impacts of selected types of AHS deployment on surrounding non-AHS roadways and to identify candidate strategies for mitigating any adverse impacts that might be identified. The heart of this set of activities was an extensive series of computer modeling runs for the selected AHS deployment scenarios. The basic modeling tool used in this work was TRANPLAN, a model suited to the desired macro modeling.
