Best Intentions: Unintended Pregnancy and the Well-Being of Children and Families

The Institute of Medicine investigated the contribution of planned childbearingto the health and well-being of women, children, and families. The 18-month study concentrated on the consequences of unintended and high-risk pregnancy (with risk defined to include a range of medical, social, and sociomedical factors). Rates of unintended (i.e., unwanted as well as mistimed) pregnancy and of selected categories of high-risk pregnancy will be presented along with trends over time.
