The performance of the global feedback system for automatic horizontal orbitposition control, now in regular use at the Daresbury SRS second generation light source, is assessed in the light of operational experience. The success of the system is suppressing horizontal orbit shape changes is described, and current experimental and theoretical investigations of possible causes of residual orbit errors and approaches for their reduction are discussed.
