Characterization of Seasonal Influences on Asphalt Pavements with the Use ofFalling Weight Deflectometers (Bepaling van het Effect van Seizoensinvloeden op Asfaltverhardingen met Behulp van Valgewichtdeflectiemeters)

The study presents an investigation of the seasonal effects on the response ofasphalt pavements for the temperate marine climatic condition of the Netherlands. The response of the pavement is mainly measured by the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), although also other testing and measuring procedures are used. The study can be divided into three parts. The first part contains information on the FWD equipment, its components, calibration and testing procedures. The second part, which is the largest part of the study, consists of the quantification of changes of temperature and season on the changes of stiffness moduli of the constituent layers of the asphalt pavement structure.
