The NEI-VFQ Field Test was developed using focus group methodology that generated211u001ea pool of items from participants from across 5 common ocular diseases (age-211u001erelated cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, 211u001eprimary open-angle glaucoma, and CMV retinitis). Participants in these focus 211u001egroups were recruited to represent different ethnic, socio-economic, and 211u001edemographic backgrounds, so as to generate a pool of items that would be relevant 211u001eto the majority of visually impaired adults regardless of the underlying cause of 211u001etheir visual problems.
