Update on the Task Force Report (1987) on High Blood Pressure in Children and211 Adolescents: A Working Group Report from the National High Blood Pressure 211 Education Program

Since the publication of the Report of the Second Task Force on Blood Pressure211u001eControl in Children --1987 (Pediatrics. 1987;79:1-25), new information has become 211u001eavailable to assist pediatricians in identifying, preventing, and treating high 211u001eblood pressure in children. Although hypertension generally was treated as an 211u001eindication of a secondary medical problem in the past, it is now known that 211u001eelevated blood pressure in many young persons may be the first sign of future 211u001eadult essential hypertension. This report was produced by a working group 211u001eappointed by the National High Blood Pressure Education Program (NHBPEP) under 211u001ethe capable leadership of Dr. Bonita Falkner. The report drew upon the combined 211u001eknowledge and experience of pediatricians, pediatric cardiologists, clinicians, 211u001eepidemiologists, and public health specialists.
