Victim Costs and Consequences: A New Look

This research report documents the results of a 2-year multidisciplinary research211u001eeffort to estimate the costs and consequences of personal crime for Americans. 211u001ePersonal crime is estimated to cost $105 billion annually in medical costs, lost 211u001eearnings, and public program costs related to victim assistance. This study 211u001ehighlights the importance of explicitly considering crime victims pain, 211u001esuffering, and lost quality of life when analyzing public policy.
