The report presents preliminary results of a study aimed to elucidate thetransport behavior of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in unsaturated porous media under wetting and drying conditions for different water contents. It gives detailed insight into several important issues regarding the transport behavior of nonvolatile and volatile organic compounds in variability water-saturated subsurface environments and provides hydraulic, transport, and chemical parameters needed for assessment of chemical transport at the field-scale. Three major research tasks are addressed: (1) characterization of the physico-chemical and hydraulic properties of the porous medium and (2) description of the transport behavior of sodium chloride (NaCl) and trichloroethylene (TCE) in soil columns under different soil moisture conditions.
