摘要

The 40th Annual New Mexico Water Conference was held in Las Cruces, New Mexico onOctober 26-27, 1995. Local water issues at the city and county levels as well as at New Mexico State University were discussed. Two panel discussions were held: a group of water managers from the Lower Rio Grande region discussed the most critical water issues from their perspectives, and a group of elected officials presented their views on the important water issues facing the region. One speaker described the general geology of the area while another discussed modeling of ground and surface water interactions in the area's basins. Federal initiatives in the area were presented as well as the recovery effort of the Rio Grande silvery minnow. One speaker's vision for restoring the Rio Grande was presented. The New Mexico/Texas Water Commission's mission and current activities were reviewed and the New Mexico State Engineer, Tom Turney, gave his thoughts on planning for New Mexico's water future.
