Integration of Acquired Companies into the Defence Industry: Experiences fromWestern Europe (Integration av Foersvarsindustriella Foervaerv)

This report presents information about the integration process of five acquiredcompanies into the Western European defense industry. In the study, the consequences of the acquisition and the integration into the new parent company is analysed. The analysis is particularly focused on whether the core business of the target company has been reduced, the possibilities for investments and the spread of R&D among the business units, but also the acquired companies' position in the business units. The acquisitions studied represent different characteristics making it possible to compare the consequences. The report is mainly based on information from and about the companies. However, the views of the Defense Ministries in the countries involved are also represented. The purpose is to give the Swedish defense authorities a broad picture of what happens when foreign companies are investing in national defense industry. The integration is not an isolated process. That is why we also discuss the environment, ie the continued restructuring of the Western European defense industry.
