Maiden Flight of Ten Thousand Mechanical Bugs

The model was run with a baseline temperature of 24C with an associated baselineascent velocity of 0.8 m/sec. Variances in temperature and ascent velocity were, respectively, (+ over -)1C and (+ over -)0.3 m/sec. Insect fall speed was 0.5 m/sec. This gave a mean upward velocity of 0.3 m/sec. The maiden flight of mechanical bugs has begun with liftoff from a field approximately 1.5 miles across. The flight deepens to approximately 600 m with apparent concentration near 400 m. The flight finally levels off through a 400 m deep layer centered at 600 m.
