GNSS Integrity Monitoring at High Latitudes. Evaluation of Data Collected duringFlight Trial in DRA BAC 1-11

This report presents the results of the EUROCONTROL 'Integrity Monitoring and'High' Latitudes' project whose goals were to determine the limits of coverage of geostationary satellite signals and to assess how useful these signals would be for satellite navigation in a typical airborne environment as one approaches the edges of transmission coverage. The observed visibility of the geostationary satellites is compared with theoretical simulations, emphasizing the reception at the edge of coverage and the effects of aircraft maneuvering. The visibility of the geostationary satellites is described with particular emphasis on the approaches and landings. The performance of the GPS system during the trial is analyzed with respect to accuracy, availability to provide an integrity capability. Finally, the effects of changing the elevation mask angle and of including the geostationary satellites as ranging sources are examined.
