Flow Field Survey in Trailing Vortex System Behind a Civil Aircraft Model at HighLift (April 1996)

The roll-up of the trailing vortex system behind a generic civil aircraftwindtunnel model with extended flaps and slates is studied up to 5 wing spans downstream. A laser light sheet flow visualization technique is used and detailed flow field measurements are made with a spanwise traversable rake with the five-hole probes. The measurement results are compared against calculations with the 2D vorticity transport equation.
