Creel Survey of Saganaga Lake, Cook County, Minnesota, May 13-September 30, 1995.Completion Report

A creel survey was conducted on Saganaga Lake, on the Minnesota-Ontario border 0nCook County from 13 May 1995 through 30 September 1995. Fishing pressure was estimated at 25,158 angler-h (1.77 angler-h/acre). Harvest and yield of walleye were estimated at 1,457 fish and 0.25 lb/acre, respectively. Lake trout harvest and yield were estimated at 154 fish and 0.07 lb/acre, respectively. Smallmouth bass and northern pile also provided significant fisheries with estimated harvests (and yields) of 703 fish (0.06 lb/acre) and 619 fish (0.12 lb/acre), respectively. Total estimated yield for all fisheries (winter, summer, and commercial) was 1.20 lb/acre, below the potential yield (based on MEI) for the study area of 2.30 lb/acre. Estimated summer fishing pressure, and estimated harvests of walleye, lake trout, and smallmouth bass all appeared to have declined since 1991.
