摘要

A carburized steel has been tested in contact fatigue loading. The machine usedwas of the ring to ring type. The effects of different Hertzian pressures, slip ratios, defects on rings and particles in the lubricant on the surface damage have been studied. A comprehensive examination of the tested material by means of optical and scanning electron microscopy has been performed. The study was aimed at achieving suitable electron microscopy has been performed. The study was aimed at achieving suitable parameters for contact fatigue testing where the resulting surface damage was of the same type and size as that found on gear wheel flanks. One set of parameters combined with indents on the load applying ring is shown to produce the desired damage.
