The measures discussed in the following chapter can at the least postpone aforeclosure to allow the family time to find alternative housing. This chapter includes a practical discussion of non-litigation strategies to deal with delinquencies, as well as possible legal and equitable defenses to foreclosure. Finally, as is always true when representing a client who is in debt, the attorney must be familiar with the benefits that may be gained by the filing of bankruptcy when foreclosure is threatened. Using bankruptcy to save the home is discussed briefly in this chapter as well.
