Gas Distribution Industry Survey: Costs of Installation, Maintenance and Repair,and Operations, Version 1. Topical Report, December 1993-March 1995

The U.S. natural gas distribution industry spends $40 - $45 billion each year tobuy gas and deliver it to the customers and to expand and renew the distribution piping system. More than half of these expenditures are paid to suppliers and transporters of gas. The way in which the balance (nearly $18 billion) is spent is controlled by the local gas distribution companies. This research is aimed to provide a better understanding of how and why these costs are incurred. It is based on interviews with 24 gas distribution companies and the data collected on a wide variety of maintenance, installation, and operations activities.
