摘要

This document provides current available data on number of deaths and unadjustedand age-adjusted death rates per 100,000 populations for different categories of alcohol-related mortality for individual States and the United States as a whole for the years 1970 to 1992. Based on the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) reporting system, the categories of causes for deaths related to alcohol consumption used are: (1) causes of death with explicit mention of alcohol, (2) other alcohol-related diseases, and (3) other alcohol-related injuries or adverse effects, such as motor vehicle or similar accidents. For each cause of death, the data tables show an alcohol attributal fraction, a number representing the proportion of deaths for each cause that medical research indicates can be attributed to excessive alcohol consumption. The purpose of the data provided in the manual include the provision of information to Federal and State agencies in allocating resources for alcohol treatment and prevention, and to make state-level alcohol problem data available for numerous research efforts.
