Lake Superior Summer Creel Survey, 1996. Completion Report

Fishing pressure in the Minnesota waters of Lake Superior in the summer creelsurvey for 1996 was 161.166 angler-hours (AH), a slight increase from 1995. Anglers fishing in Minnesota waters but gaining access in Wisconsin provided an additional 9.526 AH. Boat anglers accounted for 92.5% of the pressure and shore anglers accounted for 7.5% of the pressure. Boat fishing pressure was the greatest in the Duluth cluster in all months. Shore fishing pressure was highest in the Lester River-Two Harbors cluster. A total of 22,533 salmonids were caught during the 1996 summer season, of which 19,302 were harvested. Although the catch and harvest were less than in 1995, they were greater than in the three previous years. The 1996 salmonid catch and harvest rates were 0.1398 and 0.1198 fish per AH, respectively, higher than in most recent years except for 1995.
