摘要

In the Canadian Nuclear Fuel Waste Management Program, it is proposed that usedfuel from CANDU reactors be deposited in a deep (500-1000 m) underground vault in a geological rock formation. The fuel bundles would first be sealed into a suitable container constructed of a highly corrosion-resistant material, such as titanium. Because hydrostatic pressures will develop within the vault, attention must also be paid to the long-term structural integrity of the container. Consequently, over required service container lifetimes of 500 years or more, the design must take into account the potential for creep deformation. Reflecting these design requirements, a review of the literature on the low-temperature creep behaviour of titanium was undertaken. This report examines extant experimental and theoretical investigations, with a focus on the temperature
