Pension Information and Counseling: The Need, the Future, Implications forPractice

The Pima Council on Aging's Pension Information and Counseling Project recentlyestablished in Tucson, is plugging one of the serious gaps in Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) by giving individuals of any age, who have nowhere else to turn, information and assistance in understanding and dealing with pension questions and problems. Thousands of older Americans are frustrated each year by their inability to get answers to questions about their pensions or help in pursuing their pension claims. Congress, main purpose in enacting ERISA was to protect the reasonable expectations of workers who had worked for substantial periods under private pension plans.
