摘要

Port Heiden is a small fishing village on the Bering Sea and Bristol Bay side of the Alaskan Peninsula. Most members of the Alutiiq community have a subsistence lifestyle. A part of their diet included, and still includes, fish and shellfish taken from the Port Heiden Bay village coastline. This health consultation document responds to the villagers concern that eating clams containing asbestos would result in cancer. Due to lack of site specific data, ATSDR evaluated the likely range of asbestos taken up in clams (non-detectable to the maximum uptake in clams).
