ISO Environmental Management Standardization Efforts

The International Ogranization for Standardization (ISO) is currently developinga family of 'environmental management' standards which address management systems and the environmental aspects of products in the areas of life cycle assessment and labelling. These standards have the potential to exert a significant influence on the design, manufacture and marketing of products. They are also likely to affect the type of environmental data gathered by businesses and how those data are communicated internally and externally. The report outlines the current state of development of these planned ISO standards and also covers developments relating to third party certification of environmental management systems.
