Hemicellulases in the Bleaching and Characterisation of Kraft Pulps

Xylanase-aided bleaching of kraft pulps is the major industrial application ofhemicellulases in pulp processing. In addition to process aids, hemicellulases have recently also been shown to be promising tools in fibre analytics. In this work, the role of xylanase and mannanase pretreatments in the bleaching of softwood pulps produced by different sulphate cooking methods was studied. In addition, the action of hemicellulases in kraft fibres was characterized and exploited in the analysis of the suface composition of kraft pulps.
