Homogeneous crystallization kinetics of LiBr-2H2O and LiBr-3H2O crystals fromemulsion samples of LiBr-aqueous solutions were studied using a single step isothermal calorimetry technique. The results, presented in the form of time-temperature-transformation (TTT) curves, indicate that in the case of LiBr-2H2O, the crystallization is strongly nucleation controlled and difficult to suppress without the presence of additives. Using a viscosity-enhancing additive, the crystallization kinetics of a 28mol% LiBr-aqueous solution were investigated in detail, and both the one-step and two-step TTT curves for the crystallization of the LiBr dihydrate phase were successfully delineated. The effectiveness of various additives in suppressing the crystallization of the LiBr dihydrate phase from bulk LiBr-aqueous solutions was investigated, and their optimum concentrations were determined to be in the range of 100-500ppm.
