Development of Toxics Emission Factors from Source Test Data Collected under theAir Toxics Hot Spots Program. Volume 1

Air toxic emission factors were developed from source test data collected underthe Air Toxics 'Hot Spots' Information and Assessment Act of 1987. Emission factors were calculated, from a selection of 200 priority tests, for trace metals including hexavalent chromium, PCDD/PCDF, PAH and other SVOC, benzene, toluene and other VOC, aldehydes, and HCl. The emission factor calculation procedures included categorizing each test by design and operating parameters. Statistics were applied to determine which parameters had a primary impact on emissions. These primary parameters were used to identify distinct groups of devices. Several quality ratings were assigned to each emission factor including the confidence interval, relative standard deviation, population rating, and source test method rating.
