摘要

The presence of water in asphalt pavements is detrimental to the life of the pavement. Most construction specifications require the pavement to be compacted to a specific air void content. As an asphalt pavement's air void contents increase, the permeability of that pavement will typically increase. Therefore, measuring the air voids during construction is an indirect way to control the permeability for that pavement. The objective of Part C of the research project is to determine permeability rates for current Superpave mixes used in Connecticut. The data collected and analyzed for this research indicates there is an exponential growth in permeability as the percent air voids increase. This relationship can be modeled with reasonable accuracy and could be used as a surrogate for density. However, additional testing would be required to develop equations for each of Connecticut's HMA mixes and to improve the sample size (i.e. accuracy). In terms of Connecticut, it appears the CT mixes tested have a lower permeability than those reported in other published research. However, a larger sample size would be necessary to determine if this finding is broadly applicable.
