The first Minerals Management Service (MMS) Information Transfer Meeting (ITM)was held in 1981 to exchange Regional, environmental, and socioeconomic information among Federal and State governments, industry, academia, and public interest groups concerned with effects of oil and gas activities on the Gulf of Mexico. The Information Transfer Program has three goals; (1) to provide a forum for 'scoping' topics relative to environmental assessment of offshore oil and gas activities; (2) to present accomplishments of the MMS Gulf of Mexico Environmental Studies Program and other MMS research programs or study projects; and (3) to foster exchange of information of regional interest among scientists, agencies, regionally-important industries and academia. This volume summarizes presentations given at the Fourteenth Annual Gulf of Mexico ITM, November 1994. Session topics included the following: University research initiative studies; conservation and environmental awareness; chemosynthetic communities in the Gulf of Mexico; Gulf of Mexico Offshore Monitoring Experimental progress reports; innovative approaches to marine and energy education; Coastal Marine Institute progress reports; air quality issues on the outer continental shelf; aging infrastructure; LATEX-SeaSonde cooperative experiment; mariculture associated with oil and gas strucutres; MMS environmental studies reports; distribution and abundance of cetaceans, and subsalt efforts on the outer continental shelf.
