The primary study objective was to understand critical geologic and engineeringcharacteristics controlling Antrim Shale gas production in the Michigan Basin. Geologic work was integrated with newly-collected core, geophysical log, and production data to formulate correlations between gas content, total organic content, and other geologic characteristics of the Antrim Shale. Engineering characteristics were assessed in three cooperative field projects which investigated effects of pumping, potential for remediation, and improved stimulation technologies. The projects also demonstrated that single-state Lachine/Norwood fracture treatments do not effectively stimulate the Norwood, indicating that the Norwood should be isolated and stimulated separately. The engineering program also investigated lower cost, alternative stimulation treatments to hydraulic fracturing in the Antrim.
